Although the campaign to get Green Day’s “American Idiot” to the top of the UK singles chart in time for Trump’s arrival didn’t go quite as well as expected, the cause did spread past its target audience.
Following media coverage of the track’s resurgence across the pond, “American Idiot” also posted sales gains in the United States. Up over 320% to 2,000 downloads in the week ending July 12, total digital single sales for “Idiot” now stand at 1.96m.
The track consequently debuts at #23 on Billboard’s Rock Digital Song Sales chart.
