Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ cover of “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” has topped the 2 million mark in United States digital downloads.
Regularly moving over 1,000 copies per week, digital sales for the track now stand at 2.07 million. It was originally certified Platinum by the RIAA for 2 million physical shipments to stores. Combining the two formats, the cover has surpassed 4 million units (excluding streaming).
First issued by English American band the Arrows in 1975, Joan Jett’s version with backing group the Blackhearts became a Hot 100 #1 upon release in 1982. It topped the list for seven weeks and remains the #72 biggest hit in Hot 100 chart history as of August 2018.
