Post Malone & Swae Lee ascend to the top of the Hot 100 this week with “Sunflower”, an all-around yet not omnipotent hit that illustrates just how entrenched Post’s status as a hitmaker now is. Although it is far from dominant in any single area, “Sunflower” currently stands at #1 on each of the three major streaming services: Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
No. 9
“Eastside”, Benny Blanco’s collaboration with Halsey and Khalid, reaches the top 10 for the first time this week. While it has not been gaining steam on any metric of late, it has been rewarded for its gentle decline on Spotify and steadiness on radio, where it is #7 overall roughly six months after it began charting on pop.
No. 22
Juice WRLD’s venerable breakout hit “Lucid Dreams” spends its 32nd week inside the top 25. The song, which first gained exposure on SoundCloud last spring, was the third most streamed track in the country in 2018 per BuzzAngle’s year-end report.
No. 25
Dan + Shay bullet at #25 this week with “Speechless”, which is performing abnormally well for a country song on Apple Music, where it is currently #50. This comes as last single “Tequila” is still working its way up the pop radio chart, where it is #20 without recurrents and #32 with them included. Needless to say, the duo appears to be one of the most promising country crossover acts at the moment.

Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin’s “I Like It” (#30 this week) rings up another Hot 100 achievement. Tallying its 40th frame on the list, the track becomes the longest charting hit by a female rapper in the chart’s history. It previously tied Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s “Fancy”, Ciara and Missy Elliott’s “1, 2 Step” and Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” — all of which lasted 39 weeks — for the title.

Chris Brown earns the week’s top debut as new single “Undecided” blasts in at #35. Instrumentally sampling Shanice’s 1991 breakthrough “I Love Your Smile”, the track marks Brown’s 46th top 40. Overall it’s his 91st Hot 100 hit, tying him with James Brown for the eighth most entries in chart history.
No. 37
Ava Max’s “Sweet But Psycho”, a U.K. #1 by an American artist, climbs to #37. In the weeks to come, it will be relying heavily on pop radio. It recently cracked the top 50 on Spotify, although it has not yet gained traction on other streaming services.
No. 46
Future debuts at #46 with new single “Crushed Up”, which previews the release of his album The WIZRD on Friday. His previous album, a collaborative effort with Juice WRLD, produced his other current Hot 100 entry (“Fine China” at #72). It has been nearly two years since his last big hit–”Mask Off”, which rode a wave of memes regarding its instrumental to become the biggest hit of his career. Whether this new album will be a spark for “Crushed Up” remains to be seen, and the song will likely flounder without one. Additionally, the debut of “Up” pushes Future into a tie with Taylor Swift for the tenth most Hot 100 entries among all acts (77 each).

Billie Eilish’s 2016 release “Ocean Eyes” charts at #97, marking its fourth week on the chart overall and second in a row. Its appearance, which can be attributed to a surge in streams for Eilish’s discography at-large not unlike the one Malone received early last year after I Fall Apart blew up, is noteworthy because of its status as a catalog track. Billboard policy with catalog tracks has generally been to prohibit them from charting unless they crack the top 50–this is why, during Christmas week, there are a slew of holiday tunes inside that region but none below it.
