With Monday’s wave of new RIAA certifications, Taylor Swift picked up a massive 15 new (or upgraded) Gold and Platinum awards.
Among those were an overdue 7x Platinum certification for album ‘Red’ (2012; 4.41m US pure to date), an 8x certification for the seven week Hot 100 #1 “Blank Space” and a Gold award for fan favorite “All Too Well” (from ‘Red’). Consequently, Swift’s overall RIAA single units swell to 120 million.
But perhaps most impressively, ‘1989’ joined a small — albeit growing — club of albums with at least 10 certified tracks. It’s Taylor’s third release to reach this milestone following ‘Fearless’ (13) and ‘Speak Now’ (11).
As of July 23, 11 of the 16 tracks on ‘1989’ have earned Gold status or higher with 8 of those being certified Platinum or higher. Altogether, single units for the album now top a combined 32 million.
