Adele’s blockbuster ‘21‘ album, which has sold almost 12 million pure copies in the United States, has now been listed on the Billboard 200 album chart for 400 non-consecutive weeks.
It’s the first album by a female artist to reach this milestone and the twelfth overall.
‘21‘ is just the fifth studio album to hit 400 weeks on the chart, joining Pink Floyd‘s The Dark Side of the Moon (942 weeks), Metallica‘s Metallica (519 weeks), Nirvana‘s Nevermind (409 weeks) and Bruno Mars‘ Doo-Wops & Hooligans (406 weeks).
Interestingly, ‘21‘ beat Mars’ album (which was released several months before) to the previous milestone of 350 weeks. However, ‘21‘ dropped out of the ranking for the first time less than a month after tallying its 350th frame and Hooligans pulled ahead in May 2018.
Bonus: Today marks the anniversary of “Set Fire to the Rain” (the third single from ’21’) reaching #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
